Our annual report highlights the impact we are having in Uganda. Take a moment to join us in celebrating these 2025 achievements!

We’re exploring ways to expand our educational program and do what we can to increase the quality of education for all students in Tororo district. This is a major goal for us in 2026. Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far!

Imagine being pregnant and feeling reluctant to visit a doctor for prenatal care due to barriers of distance, transportation, and cost. Then imagine having the same issues when you go into labor, so you just decide to give birth at home instead—in a small hut with no electricity or running water! It’s an issue we are working to address at our St. John’s Kayoro Health Center. As the capacity and geographic reach of the clinic has grown, our staff decided to add prenatal care to one of our “regular” rural health outreaches.

Our partner cooperative KOMCOS is now running a successful business growing groundnuts (similar to peanuts here in the U.S.) and using machinery to produce peanut butter to sell at local markets.

Give Us Wings Executive Director, Peter Carlson, recently returned from a week-long trip to Uganda where he met extensively with staff and community members. A priority was to better understand the impact our efforts are having in the Tororo district. To that end, he had a conversation with Winnie Akware, Health and Education Secretary for the district.

Give Us Wings is always looking for ways to participate in initiatives that expand educational opportunities for girls in eastern Uganda. Our recent collaboration with Girls Not Brides, a global partnership to end child marriage and teenage pregnancy, is one such effort.

Our partner cooperative KOMCOS has been especially successful in growing groundnuts (similar to peanuts here in the U.S.) and they came to us with a business plan to capitalize on that crop.

Give Us Wings has launched a new economic development program: Community Youth Skilling. This program gives young women who have had to drop out of traditional schooling for one reason or another the opportunity to learn a viable business skill.

A park near the Mississippi River in Saint Paul was the site for a recent picnic for US partners in the Family to Family program. In between snacks and games, guests enjoyed talking with one another and with Give Us Wings staff — about their Family to Family partners and the program in general.
